About me & the Healthy World websites

Hello. My name is Salvator Giustra. With a little help from my friends I am the creator of Healthy Water, in addition to Herbal Remedies World and Healthy Exercise World - three health sites with a unifying theme.

I am currently a NYC Teaching Fellow, health researcher & computer scientist.

Previously, I was a clinical psychotherapist, psychological evaluator, taught at the College of New Rochelle for many years & spent a few years directing a busy psychiatric clinic in New York, produced a newspaper - jobs that I often held concurrently.

Why I created three health sites & what I hope you get from them

Honestly, I’m not sure. I mean, I really have done a great deal of research on health topics especially alternative health. So in one sense, I’m writing about what I know about & am passionate about.

Yes, yes, I love to help people too. Being a former clinical psychotherapist & long time educator, helping others has been a part of my job description for a ling time.

In the process, I have learned even more than my patients, students & readers, trust me.

The three websites have helped me learn about human health on a deeper level simply because teaching & writing always results in more serious learning than just researching.

So why is it that, with all of my experience as a psychotherapist & with all of my research on health issues & with my background as a health nut, fitness maniac, on & on, that in January of 2007 I woke up, readied myself for work, & just experienced the rooms spinning for no apparent reason? No hangover or bad sushi.

In the back of my mind, I knew.

The recent years spent ordering fast food, drinking lots of sodas, cutting back on exercise, dropping Tae Kwon Do & Yoga & running, advancing middle age…well, you get the picture.

Something was wrong.

I was released 2 days later with a stern warning: Shape up or else.

So, three months later…I started to shape up. I procrastinated because the medication gave me the illusion of health safety. How foolish.

Shortly afterward, I started publishing first one website, then a few months later, another & finally a third.

My health profile has improved but not as quickly & dramatically as I hoped & expected.

But I’m getting there.

I’ve lost about 1/3 of the weight I need to, can jog a few miles a day, watch my diet, use herbs to heal or prevent problems & with the exception of some coffee, I only drink filtered water, lots of it, daily.

More about the three sites

All are grounded on the idea that good health is based on simple, traditional, commonsense knowledge that research tends to support repeatedly.

No coincidence that my 3 interconnected sites advance the roles of water, exercise & natural herbs as crucial to our health.

Simple, commonsense, natural.

So, my first website (this one) developed from my readings on symptoms of dehydration, chronic dehydration & water filters. Seemed to me that not enough was being written about the role of water on our health though, wouldn’t it seem logical to suppose that water’s role must be central to our health?

I even went to some large chain book stores to get books on water. Very few were available. Huh. I bought the 2 that were available & relevant & devoured them. Great books by F. Batmanghelidj & C. Vasey.

I scoured websites on the topic also. Now, before you think me a fringe nut, know that I'm not opposed to the more complicated & esoteric approaches to health & treatment and I understand the important role that orthodox medicine can play in health care.

However, what good are cutting edge ideas, micronutrients that are in vogue, & exotic foods if you don't have the basics down?

The basics are written into our collective DNA. We are designed to move, we need lots of healthy water, unprocessed foods, the bounty of the earth in the forms of vegetables, fruits & herbs. Oh, we also need social contact, love, affiliation.

I love reading the literature on health but really doesn’t it all come down to basics?

Nothing that I am presenting is new or particularly startling. But, taken as a whole, the effects of undertaking these basics can remake you & me. Yes, make us new & better.

I hope to help motivate & educate my readers to improve their health &, by extension their minds & lives.
