Discussion of the cholesterol dehydration link follows brief discussion of the main causes of high cholesterol.
Role of cholesterol
Cholesterol has gotten a bad rap. It’s really unfair as it is one of the most important substances in our bodies.
It is harmful when excessive, presenting a serious threat to the circulatory system.
Cholesterol is vital for several reasons. Its most important function is its role in constructing the walls of our cells so substances can’t exit or enter.
We need this function performed constantly so our bodies produce cholesterol around the clock. The problem is in overproduction.
Causes of high cholesterol
Generally two:
1)What we take in, drink, eat
2)Our body’s overproduction of cholesterol
How dehydration causes high cholesterol
Dehydration results in the loss of water from all systems in the body, including the blood.
It also causes loss of water from the inside of cells. When dehydration progresses, the body produces more cholesterol to firm up cell walls so more water will not exit its interior.
This prevents further dehydration but results in increased cholesterol in our bodies.
Eventually this excess cholesterol ends up in the blood stream or gumming up systems placing sufferers at risk for serious cardiovascular disease.
Fighting high cholesterol with water
When suffering from high cholesterol, the first intervention should be drinking more water. Other interventions for reducing bad cholesterol should follow but drink more water immediately.
In fact, gulping some water immediately may even save a sufferer from a catastrophic medical event like stroke or heart attack.
So what happens when you increase your water intake. Some system, especially bloood supply, should immediately benefit from the water.
However, it is unlikely that reducing bad cholesterol will be as quick as drinking a glass of water. Why?
Water may not enter cells immediately after drinking. First of all, cells will be gummed up with cholesterol allowing little water to pass through.
It could take days or weeks for cells to become hydrated. Your body will continue to overproduce cholesterol until it learns that you will consistently supply enough water.
So keep drinking. That’ll break the cholesterol dehydration link over time.
Importantly, drink water half hour before eating so cells will start hydrating before dealing with thickened blood that results from eating.
Eating tends to take water from the blood to be used for digestion so drinking a glass or two of water will assure enough water for digestion.
Reducing bad cholesterol & fighting high cholesterol requires other interventions
If cholesterol is dangerously high & needs to come down asap, be sure to incorporate other lifestyle changes. Visit our 2 sister sites for more (scroll down for links).
1)Better diet & herbs. Cut back on foods with bad fat (beef, chicken, pork, cheese, processed/fast foods). Increase good fats (olive oil, fatty fish, avocado, nuts).
2)Exercise, especially moderate aerobics. It will start to dissolve fat. Walking is best. Aim for 2 sessions per day, 60 minutes a session, for best & fastest results.
