What Is Constipation?

Symptoms of Constipation

Preventing dehydration prevents constipation

* Infrequent bowel movements and/or difficulty having bowel movements or pain during movements

* Swollen abdomen or abdominal pain

* Pain - general pain in stomach region

* Vomiting

Causes of constipation

Specifically, the following discusses how dehydration causes constipation.

When refuse reaches the intestine, before it is ready for elimination, there must be enough water available to lubricate & speed its evacuation.

However, if you are dehydrated, other high priority body systems take water away from the intestines. For example, if the blood or brain start getting dehydrated, they hog up the available water.

This slows passage of stools & makes them hard. Eventually, these hardened stools are eliminated but with discomfort.

Essentially, constipation is a problem involving too little fluid for the waste to bind up with.

Along with many other health problems, dehydration causes constipation also.

Complications of dehydration constipation

Dehydration leading to constipation, is implicated in many serious disorders. These include;

* Hemorrhoids

* Diverticulitis

* Irritable Bowel Syndrome

* Polyps

* Colitis

* Cancer of intestines & rectum
