Tear production is necessary for the eyes to function normally and comfortably.

But it is quite evident that dry, burning eyes is a problem of note for many people. It is especially a problem as we age. It is such a big problem that commercial TV has been running ads for a prescription product to manage dry eyes.

There are many reasons for dry eyes including certain disorders like Bell’s palsy. Dr. Batmanghelidj suffered from Bell’s palsy. He noted that when the eye on the side of the face felt very dry he would drink 2 glasses of water. That seemed to alleviate condition and relieve pain and burning in just a few moments.

A second reason for dry eyes is general dehydration. You see, though having moistened eyes is important to us, it is not of the vital importance that having hydrated heart, brain, or liver are. So when we dehydrate, certain lower priority systems are likely to dehydrate first.

These would include the skin and the eyes.

Another common reason for dry eyes seems to be simple aging. We know that aging bring on increased dehydration. Some of this dehydration is unavoidable. A 70 year old man cannot be as hydrated as a 2 year old infant.

However, following certain lines of advice that this site contains could reduce, relieve or manage condition for many years well into middle age and beyond.

Advice summary? Drink lots of water, on an empty stomach, sip water every time you urinate (should sit while doing so unless at public urinal).
