frustrated researching whole house water filters

I am very frustrated researching whole house water filters. I don't trust most of the websites because they are selling a product. We want a whole house water filter. I want the contaminates removed from the water that I drink, shower in and wash my clothes in. I do not want a water softener.

Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
