Snoring & dehydration are linked thru 2 factors that healthy hydration could minimize or eliminate.
Briefly, one cause of snoring is excess weight & another is extra fat around the chin and neck. Both are symptoms of dehydration. Read on for explanation, & other tips to stop snoring.
Causes of snoring
Heredity: Hey, heredity affects pretty much every condition
Middle age: Reaching middle age is a risk factor because it‘s related to the other risks.
Male: Men are more likely to snore than women.
Overweight: One of the main symptoms of dehydration, overweight is also a risk factor in snoring.
Double chin: Another symptom of dehydration. When there's a shortage of salt, salivary glands produce more saliva to prep and cue you to chew and swallow i.e. eat. Water is needed combined with good sea salt to eliminate this as a potential cause of snoring.
Smoking: Again, smoking is connected to so much damage including basic tissue breakdown that snoring too may be another effect of smoking.
Allergies, asthma, cold sinus infection
Alcohol/medication
Sleeping posture
What snoring can lead to
*sleep apnea (possibly deadly)
*heart disease
*stroke
*headaches throughout the day (because of poor quality sleep and poor airflow through trachea)
*night sweats
*heartburn
*swollen legs and arms (due to lack of oxygen flow)
*weakened immune system
*hearing loss, if snoring is very loud. Remember, snoring can be as loud as a passing jet!
Stop snoring tips
*You guessed it, drink water. It is very unlikely that you are drinking enough water.
Drink at least ½ your body weight in pounds, of ounces of water daily, preferably 2/3 of your body weight in ounces per day. Weigh 150 pounds? Drink at least 75, preferably 100 ounces of water daily.
*Also, be sure that while cutting back on table salt you have adequate sea salt in your diet. You could add ¼ tsp salt to every gallon of water.
See our tab on Water & Salt for info on how lack of salt causes double chin.
*Then, you should try to get to your ideal weight and can do some facial & neck exercises to help you stop snoring.
NOTE: Readers often try some self-improvement strategy only to give up when positive results don’t soon follow. It’s understandable.
However, like many other problems, breaking the link between snoring & dehydration, losing weight, & becoming fully hydrated may take some time. Be patient, move forward, start now.
