6)Danbury Connecticut convened a panel on the topic: "How to keep athletes safe and healthy"

Briefly, the panel advised medical persons to be aware of "care of the collapsed athlete, and addressed causes of collapse, including injury, heat stroke, cardiac problems, electrolyte imbalance and dehydration." I believe that the role of healthy hydration on sports performance & injury prevention is much discussed but not sufficiently acted on.

In fact, it is possible that lots of mysterious decreases in performance and injuries following dehydration are caused by loss of fluids during exercise or play. For full article, click here.

5)Water contamination may be a particular problem in old schools.

Many old schools may have pipes that leak lead into drinking water fountains. As replumbing may be too expensive and impractical, at least one school in Baltimore has decided to just install water coolers.Click for more

4)Recent blog from November 7, 2007, points out what we know about bottled water. They do not solve the problem of water contamination & so are not good solutions to dealing with symptoms dehydration.

"The NRDC tested more than 1,000 bottles of 103 brands of bottled water and found about one-third were contaminated with varying levels of synthetic organic chemicals, bacteria, and in some cases, arsenic." Click for more
