Can water cure diseases? By Tessa Salazar, Philippine Daily Inquirer

The above article explores Dr. Batmanghelidj’s writings on the connection between dehydration and disease. We applaud any mention of Dr. B’s work as it is the major inspiration for this website.

MANILA, Philippines – It’s surprising how such the most basic bond between two atoms of hydrogen and one of oxygen can at once be taken for granted and then be so contentious, especially on the subject of illnesses and cures.

Take, for example, the philosophy of Doctor Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, who carries around the mantra, “You are not sick, you are thirsty. Don’t treat thirst with medication.” He believes the underlying cause of many diseases is dehydration.

Health experts say Utahns are not drinking enough water

The following article discusses lack of healthy hydration in Utah but really applies to all states.

Excerpt on healthy hydration in Utah follows including link to entire article.

Drinking water, health experts say, is key in this heat, but most of us just aren't doing it.

"I would say given a percent, I would say ten percent of people are properly hydrated at most." Health and fitness expert Tyler Tsujimoto says if you are inside or in the shade your body needs at least two liters of water a day to stay hydrated. If you step out into the sun, or start exercising, you should double or even triple that amount.

And not just any liquids will do. When it comes to hydration, guzzling sodas or energy drinks can actually make you more thirsty. Tsujjimoto says thirst can be a sign that your body is on it's way to dehydration.

Milford tap water found to be contaminated

The following item is reprinted in its entirety. It is an ongoing problem that serves as a warning to consumers who usually have access to good water.

Milford residents were instructed on Sunday to boil all tap water after the town’s water supply was found to be contaminated with E. coli and other fecal coliform bacteria.

The contaminants were discovered in a sample taken Wednesday during routine testing. The Milford Water Co. also advised residents to discard any food, drinks, baby formula, or other items prepared with tap water since Wednesday.

Henry Papuga, Milford Water manager, said his company did not get the test results until Saturday because of a communication problem with the laboratory that does the tests. Milford is currently drawing from just one of its five sources of water, Echo Lake Reservoir, which is also the cleanest of its sources, Papuga said.

By late Sunday, tests showed that E. coli was no longer a problem. But tap water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation still needs to be brought to a full boil for at least one minute until further notice, the water company said.

Adequate Water Intake Essential For Athletes, By Ummi Nadiah Rosli Click to go from water intoxication news to Home The title says it all. However, the article gets into death from over exercising and need to keep adequately hydrated. That piece of info needs some clarification.

During long intense exercise, like marathon running, it is extremely important that runners stay hydrated. However, after a couple of hours of running, drinking only water may actually be dangerous. That’s because minerals and electrolytes are being lost and extra water just dilutes the remaining minerals and electrolytes.

This is a potentially fatal situation. So if you are going to be working out for long periods of time, make sure you supplement with a sports drink.

You should probably go for a Gatorade or two. Better yet, you can make your own sports drink:

1 pckg Kool Aid for flavor

2 qts water

1/4 - 1/2 cups sugar (To taste)

1/4 - 1/2 tsp sea salt (A must)

1/2 cup orange juice (or another potassium filled juice)

(I’d also take a good multivitamin and multimineral. Consider one of those sports gels. They‘ll keep you going.)

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The recent death of an undergraduate during a 22km marathon in Shah Alam due to severe dehydration attests to the danger of not paying attention to the body's constant need of water.

In Malaysia's hot and humid weather, forgetting to quench our thirst with good old H20, or being plain lazy to do so, explains a variety of our health problems.

Remember when we complained of difficulty in breathing? Reduced alertness and concentration? Headaches? Or a new pimple? These are some of the body's many signals of dehydration, and not just when experiencing a dry mouth.

Experts say everything from constipation to cancer has been linked to an inadequate daily intake of water.
