What is lupus?

Cause, Symptoms, Treatment 4 Lupus

Connection between dehydration & lupus

So, what is lupus, its symptoms, cause & treatment? What is the link between dehydration & lupus?

What is lupus?

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that effects various parts of the body, including the joints, skin, blood, and kidneys.

Lupus can also be termed an immune disorder as the immune system attacks its own cells and tissues. This results in pain, inflammation & often damage to organs.

For some people, the disease is mild, mildly affecting only a few organs. For others, lupus can be severe & life threatening.

Cause of lupus

The medical community doesn’t know what causes causes lupus & other autoimmune diseases.

Lupus is often linked to the following variables. Included is a discussion of how dehydration may be one of the more probable causes of lupus.

* Environment, like chemical exposures, exposure to mercury & silica may increased the risk of lupus.

* Sunlight exposure is essentially another environmental variable that may bring on lupus for sun-sensitive persons

* Stress, in particular increases the severity & symptoms of lupus

* Medications may increase the chances of contracting lupus. Drugs linked to lupus include the antipsychotic chlorpromazine, high blood pressure medications such as hydralazine, the tuberculosis drug isoniazid & the heart medication procainamide,

* Gender. For some reason, lupus is more common in women than in men.

* Age. Although lupus affects people of all ages, including infants, children and older adults, it's most likely to develop between the ages of 15 and 45.

* Race is also a factor. Lupus is more common in blacks & in Asians.

To go from lupus treatment to Books by batmanghelidj click here * Dehydration & lupus: Lupus is another degenerative disease wherein the body attacks itself. Dr. Batmanghelidj outlines how lupus can be caused by dehydration & its complications.

Dehydration causes a buildup of toxins because there is not enough urine to eliminate them properly. It is left to the immune system to try and combat & neutralize them.

So the immune system attacks them. Unfortunately, the immune system goes into overdrive & can start to err in discerning what is a dangerous toxin or what is good & helpful to the body.

The bodies defenses are not perfect. The immune system starts cannibalizing precious body elements which is a conditions we term “autoimmune.” Lupus is but one of the more autoimmune disorders.

So a twist on the question of 'what is lupus?' - a state in which the body starts to indiscriminately attacks itself because of the buildup of toxins that are poorly eliminated due to dehydration.

Lupus treatment

Traditional lupus treatment has included dangerous medications including steroids, anti-malarials, anti-inflammatory drugs, immuno-suppressants.

Also recommended is adequate rest, caution with sun exposure, moderate exercise, not smoking, healthy diet, fish oils & flax seeds.

But, in light of the above discussion, doesn’t it make sense to assure that persons at risk keep hydrated?

Even if we can't answer the question 'What is lupus?'surely, drinking water is less painful, less expensive & easier than dealing with the many complications of dehydration & lupus.

There is no telling whether drinking water can cure lupus. This is another instance where an ounce of prevention really is worth more than a pound of cure.

So assure that lupus is prevented first.

But if you are suffering from lupus make absolutely certain that you drink at least 8 - 12 glasses of filterd water a day. Especially, for lupus sufferers, try drinking filtered water to avoid contaminants in the public water system.
